2021 Book-calendar

Explosion of Growth is the sixth and last book-calendar in the six-year series of Telling the History of Douglas County. This book-calendar for 2021 was published and introduced on August 1, 2020. Historic Douglas County traditionally introduces the calendar for the next year at the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo; the novel coronavirus in 2020 cancelled the tradition! Explosion of Growth covers the era of 1990 to 2020 and focuses on the events, ordeals, and impacts that shaped the history and culture of Douglas County during period when Douglas County experienced an unbelievable upheaval in its economy and became, for a period in the 1990’s, the fastest growing county in the United States.

The Explosion of Growth from 1990 provides insight as to what drove the changing economy and massive population growth and provides a brief substantiation of how this growth continues beyond 2020. The 2021 book-calendar takes you on a journey through Douglas County’s expanding governments and its huge growth in educational services offering almost unbelievable choice to the County’s residents. The era saw a major, well managed countywide transformation of its libraries, the progress toward sustainable water supplies and the expansive Douglas County Sheriff’s Office growth to provide law enforcement and public safety. The era sorts out its “Big County” politics, depicting how the County’s profile of parties and candidates fared during the era. The 2021 book-calendar also addresses the impact of growth on the five, exceedingly different geographic areas within the County: The Northwest encompassing Roxborough, Sedalia, and Louviers; Highlands Ranch and the maturation of Douglas County’s largest development endeavor; the Northeast with Parker and the new-to-the-era town of Lone Tree: Crossroad, linking the east to the west portion of the County with the dramatically different towns and communities of Castle Pines, Castle Rock and Franktown; Douglas County’s portion of Divide County along the Palmer Divide offering large expanses of open space and agricultural orientation; and, The Pike with Douglas County’s portion of the Pike National Forest and the communities of Westcreek, Deckers and Twin Cedars adjacent to the South Platte River.

You’ll enjoy the 2021 Explosion of Growth book-calendar and oh yes, there is a small monthly calendar associated with each of the book-calendar’s chapters (months).

With the inclusion of the citations of research used in producing this book-calendar document along with the well-written pieces about the major influences in the County’s overall growth during these eras, the book-calendar series is an educational piece for the general public and is being used by educators as an educational resource.

Yes, there is a calendar in this book-calendar document; however, you will find it to be quite small and not necessarily overly usable as a vehicle for large-scale planning or scheduling.
