2018 Book – Calendar
The Douglas County Historic Calendar 2015 ended the production of annual historic wall-calendars by Historic Douglas County, Inc. (HDC). In 2016, HDC began the production of a new, educational concept of Telling the History of Douglas County, a “Book-calendar.” The first edition of a five year series, “In the Beginning” was an amazing success. Starting from the end of the Ice Age to 1870. The 2016 book-calendar led to the second book-calendar in the series, 2017’s “The Early Years“, 1870-1900. For 2018, Strife and Success is the book-calendar that tours 1900 to 1930.
This third, 2018 book-calendar edition of the five years series takes the reader into the turn of the twentieth century where difficulties and major success seemed to somehow balance. A time that saw the forefront of 
medicine in the County, the Great War, man’s ability to successfully cope with this arid land, the beginning of healthy management of our vital forests, and the wrangling of our crazy politics, modernization and the growth of the economy and …you’ll even learn about the Bulgarians! The book-calendar series moves into the midsection of our Douglas County history.
With the inclusion of the citations of research used in producing this book-calendar document along with the well-written pieces about the major influences in the County’s overall growth during these eras, the book-calendar series is an educational piece for the general public and is being used by educators as an educational resource.
Yes, there is a calendar in this book-calendar document; however, you will find it to be quite small and not necessarily very usable as a vehicle for planning and scheduling.
You can receive one calendar or up to four calendars by using your PayPal and following the ordering instructions below. Each calendar is $6.50 ($5.00 for the calendar and $1.50 for handling and shipping).
If you wish for more than four calendars, please contact the Historic Douglas County Storekeeper with your name, address and contact information. The Storekeeper will contact you about your needs and may be able to make custom pricing arrangements.
